*UPDATES* - BROTHER CHRISTOPHER's CONDITION

November 25, 2012 Sunday 11:00 PM CST:

Last update on Bro. Christopher: (This blog will be closed)

Testimony of God’s miracles:

Miracle#1:
In this God ordained act of August 11, 2012 in Beaumont TX, USA, Bro. Christopher survived out of 0% of Physician predicted chances of survival.

Miracle#2:
When this accident happened, I was in a position where I had 0% of time and health for anything other than for my own business. And I had to create and devote substantial amount of time out of that 0% of the time I had for this situation.
The above two are only possible in God’s realm.

It would not have been possible without the dedication of my precious and simple wife Padma, and our supportive son Kiran who himself is busy with his life having completed his MD and doing a research work at NYU.

My son said, “Daddy, the Lord is giving you a high jump by giving you this opportunity”.

Many of you and family members appreciated, empathized and encouraged us and prayed for us.

I want to take this opportunity to worship and thank God before you for this kind of responsibility He has laid upon me and my family and also want to sincerely thank you for praying, appreciating and encouraging us which enabled us to carry out the task.

Bro. Christopher will continue to receive Intensive Rehabilitation at Reddy’s Physical Therapy clinic while he will be seeing other specialists such as Orthopedic, Neurology, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, etc. He intends to travel to India as soon as he can in about 2 months or so.

Since Bro. Christopher will be able to take your calls, this blog will not be updated anymore and will be closed.  From now onwards you may call a dedicated cell phone number any time other than the normal US working hours Mon-Friday 8:00 to 5:00 PM CST and Sunday 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM CST (as we go to Houston to Church). That phone number is (409) 504 4443.  Or email to Christophernruth@yahoo.com, the alternate being reddy@reddyspt.com . Once again I thank and praise God for He it is, that enabled me to do the updates out of 0% of the time I had.

I want to whole heartedly thank every one of you and the family members for understanding, and patiently waiting until this time to personally speak to Bro. Christopher.

The following will be the order of Phone numbers to talk to Bro. Christopher:

1.  D.S. Christopher:    (409)504 4443  - cell    (preferred)

2.  Raghu R.B. Reddy:  (409)781 4461  - cell

3.  Padma                       (409)781 3017  - cell

4.  Home:                        (409) 842 2188 - Land

5.  Reddy’s Physical Therapy Clinic: (409)832 4141 Option#5 - Land

Kindly leave a message if the phone is busy. There are all possibilities of not being able to return the calls due to the volume of calls or technical reasons. If your call is not returned, kindly call us again. If you are not able to reach us kindly email us.
Due to vision problems, Bro. Christopher currently is not able to handle the phone. Either I or Padma will have to answer your call and then hand the phone over to Bro. Christopher.

Finally, another testimony of myself:

I have invested a lot in my business to make it the best in the region never knowing to the extent that the Lord also had a purpose that this servant of God, Bro. Christopher needed the facility for a time like this.

Now the Lord has been asking me:

    1. Who is investing in you?

    2. Who are you investing in?

Read the latest book book called “The Invested life” by Joel Rosenberg and Dr. T.E. Koshy to know more about the above 2 questions.

We once  again beseech the local and international guests to kindly consider our situation and visit us only on weekends.
We would like you to please come on Friday afternoon and stay in our house for Friday and Saturday nights and leave any time on Sunday but not on Monday.

We are currently not able to afford Weekday visiting. If must, kindly call us before you make your travel plans.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvinience.

Thank you for your cooperation, understanding, love, concern and prayers,
With the love of Christ,

Rehabilitating to Prayer Position:

Christopher resting at the clinic in a room in between exercise sessions from where he can see out through the glass and others cannot see him.

While we have been recovering out of our situation, Padma’s father, 96, fell and broke his  hip in the village in India, and was operated last week. Padma had a desire to visit his father before he would die but it pleased the Lord that we stay back; and the Lord called him home on Tuesday the 13th.

Padma lost her mother not long ago. Padma was the baby of the family. She was closest to her parents in relationship to whom they tell the secrets. (How true it is that when we are close to our heavenly father, He too would tell us the secrets. No question that the parents love all the children equally but it is only the one who responds to their love that gets the most out of them)

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->

Just before his death he said to Padma over the Phone, “Amma (Baby)!, the Lord is calling me from heavens and I am leaving. I am going to see (your) mother. I will not see you anymore, but I will see you there (in heaven)”.

Padma’s father, Konda Reddy’s  testimony as a point of interest:
He and his wife were born again and baptized about 15 years ago. Customarily one evening in the village, he was asked to come to the Hindu temple to read Hindu scriptures. He said, “I now belong to Jesus. I cannot come to temple any more”. They said, “If you don’t come, we will carry you on our shoulders and take you there.” He refused to give into and said, “You may carry me. But I will bring my Bible with me and read the Bible instead.”   That is the end of the story.

After being born again he drank in one cup at the Lords Table on Sundays with those that he himself treated as untouchables and that were laborers at his own house.

He took the microphone and spoke at the funeral service of his own wife at the burial place.

All his 3 grand children are born again in the family but are back-slidden.

He kept up his faith without ever backsliding and finished his race.

Thank the Lord that "Though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, (Not a valley of death but a ....shadow...) I will fear no evil: for you are with me ……………Ps 23:4"
Oh! It is only a shadow.

We have been sustained through your prayers.

Road to Recovery: Christopher goes to Church today

Bro. Christopher was taken to Houston Christian Assembly (HCA) that is in Houston which is 90 miles away from Beaumont for the first time after the accident. Brothers and sisters were surprised and touched by brother’s unexpected presence. Some shed tears of joy.

Sitting for Saturday AM’s family prayer
“We are missing Ruth”, Brother said.

Christopher Watching the replayed Accident News that was televised in the local channel although he was shown this clip to him twice in the hospital which he forgot:

Video:

Christopher’s dictated response to the emails:

Dearly beloved in the Lord,

I gratefully acknowledge the receipt of your messages of comfort and encouragement on the hearing of the news of my dear wife Ruth Christopher’s home call to be with the Lord. It was a humbling experience to receive many messages which brought comfort and consolation to my heart. It was encouraging to see the news televised on local channel and published in the local News paper particularly as they were emphasizing her testimony of living for the Lord Jesus Christ to be a blessing for many families and individuals.
I was hospitalized following the accident and was in the hospitals undergoing various surgeries on my limbs and Rehabilitation.  After the 3 months of treatment I have come out of critical stage in spite of the pessimistic views of the doctors that I might expire before Ruth. Right now I have come home to my brother-in-law Raghu’s house and experiencing the family atmosphere  after completing 3 weeks of rehabilitation process where they trained me to walk.  Now I am able to walk with support.  I am continuing the therapy at my brother-in-law’s outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic and at home. I have made a commitment to the Lord that I shall follow the excellent example left by my wife to live whole heartedly for the Lord and serve Him. Please continue to pray for me that I may follow the Lord’s will and be a useful vessel to serve His purpose.

Praying that the Lord may continue to use you for His glory and reward you for your labors.

Yours in His service,
Bro. D.S. Christopher

Brother was taken to my clinic yesterday, Friday, the 9th, and was given intensive therapy with rest in between and was brought back home by 5:00 PM.  He had seen the clinic right from the beginning.  He had known every equipment and every treatment cubicle / room. He himself had  treatment several times. He had prayed for it every day. Yet  Brother could not remember the clinic and its contents when he came in.
It is sad.  But God has a purpose.

Thank you for all your prayers

November 7, 2012; Wednesday 7:00 PM CST

Christopher is coming home to 7995 Willow Creek Drive, Beaumont, TX:

Christopher will be discharged tomorrow, Thursday the 8th of November 2012 from the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital.

He will continue intensive out-patient therapy at my facility Monday through Friday. We will get him ready and take him to the clinic early in the morning and bring him back home with us in the evening. We will have a bed for him in my office room that has an attached toilet and from within the office room he can see all the activities going on within the facility while others cannot see him and there by his privacy is maintained and it will be lively for him.  He will be resting between the therapy sessions. We will spend Saturdays and Sundays at home.

We beseech the local and international guests to kindly consider the situation and visit us on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
We would like you to please come on Friday afternoon and stay with us for the weekend to have fellowship with us which would be more profitable for all of us.

Thank you for all your prayers and understanding.

Christopher is toddling – an another milestone

Toddler Christopher – being trained to go to bathroom before going to bed (Nov 1, 2012) - although not happily, with a feeling of being pushed against his wish and comfort (due to the spells of child like state of mind as a result of head injury)

Toddler Christopher being trained for independence in brushing teeth and other hygiene early in the morning before going for breakfast.

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->

Mama Padma rolling the toddler Chrostopher on Wheel Chair to dining room while he prefers to eat in bed for his valid justifications which are not accepted according to the rules of the house.

I wait here  in the dining hall of HealthSouth Rehabilitation hospital for Christopher to be brought to dining room.

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->
Because, if I would go to his room before the meal, baby would give several valid reasons to qualify himself to stay in his bed and eat in the bed in his room and therefore I would not straight go to his room. Instead, I wait in the dining hall and let the staff bring him. I would bring my paper work and do it here connecting myself to my office computer.
Either Padma or I come here and monitor his meals intake regularly while we still sleep in his room in the nights. By God’s perfect provision, the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital is just 1 ½ mile away from my clinic and therefore quite convenient to make quick visits during his meal timings. It is 7 miles away from our home.

Mama Padma is making sure the toddler Christopher eats as much as possible and by himself.

May God bless you for sincerely following up with the updates and accordingly praying.

October 31, 2012 Wednesday; 11:00 PM CST:

Child Christopher explained to Mom Padma that the PEG / Stomach tube has been pulled out today.

As soon as Padma came to visit him, he cutely lifted up his shirt and said to her, as a child to mother, “.....You want to see my stomach! The doctor pulled the tube out.  It was very painful. I said ooh, ooh.”

He is on normal diet through mouth and he eats by himself. He prefers western to Indian. He is not preferring spicy food. He used to love ice-creams and desserts but somehow not now.

Note:Visitors are requested to limit to Saturdays and Sundays due to critical issues here. Any other days will seriously affect the care to brother, and care to my patients at the clinic. Kindly do stay in our house on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and fellowship with us although we may eat outside and one of us at a time may be at home to host you.

The situation is still critical although the life is not while I am having to do all by myself ( but not without the Lord); But all is well here as in Psalm: 46 and 23, through your prayers.

Thank you for understanding.

Brother Christopher taken in Ambulance to “Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute” for Orthopedic Consult.

Video:Brother Christopher back to HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital to his room after an Orthopedic consult at Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute.

Brother Christopher standing at the edge of the bed holding onto wheelchair with full weight bearing on both the lower extremities.

Brother Christopher’s fractured and repaired left humerus, left femur, left Tibia and right ankle have been healing very well. The right talus (one of the ankle bones) has chances for avascular necrosis / bone death. The Orthopedic surgeon has removed all weight bearing restrictions and the Physical Therapy focus will be on his gait / ambulation training.

He still has a lot of periods of confusion with periods of child like manner although with improved cognitive periods. He still has problems with simple activities such as picking up water bottle/mug from the bedside table and drink by himself, using the call button by himself etc. not because of physical weakness but because of  issues of confusion. He is still unable to call for nursing help due to difficulty in getting right words and confusion.

Thank you for your prayers.

October 28, 2012 Sunday; 11:00 PM CST:

Paul Manohar Reddy from Dallas who fellowships at  Bethel with Bro. Linus and others, brought his father Deva Manohar Reddy and his mother Tolasamma to visit Brother Christopher, driving 300 miles.

Bro. Christopher was fairly able to place Bro. Dev Manohar Reddy and sister, after he was explained who they were. Bro. Manohar Reddy brought out few names of elderly saints common to them and made brother recollect their names.
When Bro. Manohar Reddy mentioned about Bro. Christopher’s mother and that he had attended her funeral, Bro. Christopher recollected the events where as he was confused of her mother last week believing that she was still alive. Brother Christopher and Sister Ruth knew Paul so well and had even been to Paul’s home in Dallas and prayed for their first daughter Zoe recently, yet Bro. Christopher forgot and found it hard to recollect.

Brother Christopher participated in simple conversation cognitively although with the above memory problems.

Bro. Dev Manohar Reddy closely followed my updates on Bro. Christopher on the web with a great burden for brother so much so that he had a clear view of every detail. A heavy burden was laid in my heart to give a panoramic view of the happenings here to all the saints and the blood related who were interested in knowing the developments here on day-to-day’s basis. It is amazing to me how I am able to do this in my current situation. I am thankful for every manner of every one that either called or emailed or followed the web and have gotten the current information somehow or other and prayed intelligently and fervently. God willing I will visit every one of you with Bro. Christopher one day and personally thank you for all your support. Some have been claiming the promises before the Lord for Bro. Christopher. Bro. Dev Manohar Reddy shared with Bro. Christopher today how he was upholding Brother with a promise from Jeremiah 30: 17 “….I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord…..” Bro. Christopher was at the best of his cognitive periods and physical condition during these dear ones’ visit and said to me after the visit, “It was very kind of them to come and visit. The promise from Jer. 30:17 was true on my behalf. It was encouraging and their visit was profitable……”

Just to let you know, Bro. Manohar Reddy is from Pulivendla (my home taluq) of Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh, India. His father late Obul Reddy was a classmate of my father in the high school and was a witnessing Christian of those days who knew Brother Bakht Singh closely. Bro. Manohar Reddy’s mother’s sister is Sis. Pearl, a precious and faithful sister in the Lord and a steadfast full time servant since 50s, and is still at Hebron.

At the same time Bro. Elliot from Houston Christian Assembly also visited Bro. Christopher today once again but brother could not recognize him. Elliot brought out certain names of elderly saints which Brother was able to recollect.

Thank you for following the updates and praying accordingly.

October 24, 2012 Wednesday; 11:00 PM CST:

Video 1: John Hawes' Email to Bro.Christopher.

When I asked Bro. Christopher to respond to Bro. John Hawes’ email, he said, “Not now. I have to think. He has written the email very deep.”

Video 2: Still confused about the accident and who died in the accident.

<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--> <!--[endif]-->
I have read several emails. He recognized many. Due to the volume of emails, his weak general condition and the similarity in the content / nature of emails, he has been wanting to give one response to all, but has not been able to, due to tiredness out of intensive therapy/activities and other reasons.

He has been making a gradual progress mentally and physically.

Present Physical abilities: Able to eat, brush, and floss the teeth by himself in the bathroom on a wheelchair for short periods. Initiated to shave himself but could not complete due to general weakness. Able to assume sitting from lying position with minimal assistance. Able to stand at the edge of the bed with minimal assistance for a minute bearing full weight on left leg and just touching right foot on the floor due to weight bearing restrictions. Padma is able to transfer him from bed to wheelchair and back to bed with minimal assistance.

Inconsistently he is able to tolerate low level therapy (Physical, Occupational and Speech) for 2 to 3 hours a day.

Mentally: Cognitive periods are increasing and confusion periods are decreasing. Hallucinations are much less. He is consistently making a progress in recognizing and remembering although inconsistently. He recollected Hebron’s address and visualized the location of Ruth's and Christopher's room upstairs very well but could not recollect or visualize our home and clinic or their addresses  in Beaumont.

God willing, he might develop skills and ability to be able to live in our house in Beaumont and ride / travel for short distances with some modifications / moderate assistance  in about 2 months of time.

Thanking  you for your continued prayers.

Child Christopher cranky at times : Result of head injry

Bro. Christopher as usual in the manner of a child disputed this morning regarding daily routine stating  “It is a struggle to go through their routine.... They disturbed me several times in the night (for Temperature, Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar etc.).... Yesterday, they made me sit and stand for 60 times! They made me do the cycle for a long time; I did it anyway...... They made me do lot of things with arms …”

I explained to him stating, “We know it is a struggle. We know that you truly do not have strength. It does not seem that you can go for therapy. Our Lord is able. If you do the exercise, you can get stronger and we will take you home soon and we will travel together and work for the Lord. We will go to Israel. We will visit many people, especially the Nepalese who love you and whom you love……..”

I reinforced the same message in prayer with brother and in response he said, “I am now 70. I don’t know how long the Lord wants me to live. My situation here in Rehab is like the new servants of God in the ministry how they struggle in the beginning but when they continue to obey they will be prepared to go to difficult places.”

He did have therapy for 3 hours. When Padma went during lunch time, it was to him like mother went to visit the child; and he would tell them ahead, “My sister-in-law is going to come with me to cafeteria”. There he would force Padma to taste the food like a child to let her experience how the vegetables are not cooked well! or how bad the food is!, etc so that he wouldn’t have to eat.

Food is really good at HealthSouth. In the past he did like western food but now he is very picky.

When I went to check him at 3:30 PM he said to me, “I am glad you came. These people have been forcing me ---------------I was not feeling like going (to gym for therapies) ….I told them to come after 2 hours.”

He had been for therapies today but he forgot; He was confused. Speech Language Pathologist said that he was very cognitive at times and confused at other times, and that he was still not able to read even big letters.

We thank you for your prayers.

Wonder working God and Prayer answering God:

“Christopher waiting for his turn of therapy in the gym at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center” (This will be the first and the last picture in the gym as picture taking is not permitted.)

Brother’s sitting tolerance was 10 minutes the day he came into rehab and about 15-20 minutes the 2nd day and could not tolerate activities / therapy. He would refuse in the manner of a child for medications, Therapy, food etc. with his valid reasoning, fear of doing things, confusion etc as a result of head injury.

Patient must be able to tolerate 3 hours of therapy (PT, OT and Speech therapy) in order to qualify to remain in Rehab otherwise which he would have to be taken to a Nursing home instead, for a low level therapy. I raised a son and so I knew how to deal in this situation with this “Child Christopher”. So, just before going to sleep I explained / clarified to him as a father would to a child, the rules of the house. He disputed with his reasoning as that’s how he has been doing for not being able to do things but he got the message by my explanation/clarification. We prayed together about the matter and went to sleep last night. Padma and I stayed overnight as usual with brother; got up early in the morning and gave care to brother and prayed with brother again beseeching the Lord to give strength that is required to qualify him to continue to remain in Rehab. Brother got the message again through the prayer, that he needed to comply to the rules of the house and Brother did comply today by His strength. He successfully stayed in therapy for the required amount of time today and retained the position in Rehab by His grace. Isn't that a miracle? I wouldn't have been able to understand this outside Christ.

A lesson: When you want to make a child to comply, do two things. # 1. Explain / clarify; #2. Pray of the same with the child.

Since Brother has intensive rehab at HealthSouth Rehab Center,  Padma and I don’t stay with him in the day time as we did at St. Elizabeth hospital.

Padma and I visited him today alternately to see how he was doing. (We did this to Kiran, our son when he first went to kindergarten in Bahrain)  Whenever we went and visited him in the gym during therapy, he would quietly complain to me or Padma like a small child, by saying, “They made me sit too long” ….“They made me work on that machine… It was haaard … I did 20 squats repeatedly”…. “I told them, not to make me do so much the first day”….. “They have a protocol and they just want to follow that” “I said I will do it… but I need some time…”

Brother also ate every meal by himself where as we fed him till yesterday. He did not need feeding through stomach tube.

If he continues to eat this way by mouth  his stomach tube will be removed.

I want you to kindly praise God for His numerous wonderful works and answers to prayers.

With the love of Christ,

October 16, 2012 Tuesday, 11:00PM CST: Videos

Testimony of God’s provision:

The Lord has always been striking me with few things following this horrific accident that took place in Beaumont, TX on August 11th 2012 at 7:10 PM CST. Firstly, ‘Something good (of eternal value) will come out of this incidence and He is going to accomplish whatever He intended in His way and in His time.   Secondly, ‘He is not going to test beyond what we can bear.”  Thirdly, ‘The Lord makes provision and a way of escape before He allows these kinds of incidences’. So, we have the provision and a way of escape prepared already. What a comfort! What a heavenly father! The word says “The Lord is my Shepherd”, means “I shall not lack / I have abundance”. We are the children of God of abundance. I get several plans myself in my mind for the current situation. We can opt to choose a plan based upon circumstances and reasoning but He always has one that is best. Unfortunately we settle for the less or the better.  “Better is the enemy of the Best”. May the Lord help us to choose that “Best” for the current situation.

Sister Orpah Gamadia from Dallas reminded me of a favorite portion of Brother Christopher i.e. Eph 3: 20, 21 and said that the Lord would accordingly provide Brother Christopher that would be exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think,----------; and that we should claim that promise on behalf of our brother.

The Lord had a perfect plan that this so called horrific accident should take place in Beaumont, TX, USA because He had made every provision here for Bro. Christopher before this accident (even before the time began). (a place: Beaumont, Hospital: St Elizabeth; People: Brother of his wife, a Physical Therapist, who is supported by locals, saints close by and all over the world; Other worldly needs: US Citizenship, finance, housing, etc.) –There by, the Lord lead Bro. Christopher in the past to make decisions that would lead to favor our current situation and to ‘the yet to come’.

After working in Bahrain for 14 years, I had a job offer from Lancing, MI, USA. Bro. Christopher did not prefer a cold region where it would snow and therefore advised me to decline the offer and wait for another offer in a warmer place. (I had been to Lancing and I now do love that place and the snow too).  I have always respected my brother-in-law and listened to his advices / counsels. So, I called the recruiter in the US and declined that offer. (Who would decline an opportunity in a “Land of Opportunities? The Lord’s hand was behind). For my next offer, the recruiter asked my preferences to region and the type of facility that I would like to work in. I said, “Firstly, Not Chicago…. Not New York…. No such places where I have to spend hours in commuting to work but a medium city that would also have a university / a Degree College for my son (who currently has got MD degree) to be able to go to college. (I visited Chicago and New York and I now love them.) Secondly, Not a cold place but a Warm place. Thirdly, if possible a 500 bedded mission hospital where there are all specialties. So, the Lord lead the recruiter chose St. Elizabeth hospital a 500 bedded mission hospital with all specialties; Beaumont, a medium city; and Texas  a warm (hot) place. I worked for St. E for 7 years before I went on my own.

As frequent travelers, Ruth and Christopher could have met this accident in any other country but the Lord ordained it to be in Beaumont,
having made a provision as mentioned above. And also, there are so many who could have taken care of Bro. Christopher, such as saints or the blood related but it happened to be me (privileged), brother of his wife and a Physical Therapist.
He could have been admitted to any hospital in any part of the world but it happened to be St. E. a familiar and a local hospital.

May we worship our Jehovah-Jireh for his perfect provision! May this so called horrific accident make us not simply see only God’s provision but see what He can do in us which should nothing be other than forming Christ in us.

Brother Christopher although still confused said today when he was alert," The Lord allowed  this to awaken many ....... us". (surely did mine)

I want to thank those that have written emails directly to Brother Christopher in my email Reddy@ReddysPT.Com . I have read several of them and replied. He recognized some with cuing, some without and some he did not. Your attached pictures have really helped him to correlate as you have seen in the above videos. I have not been able to video-record brother’s response to every email and post every one of them on the web. I wish, I did but for practical and several other issues on this side. I assure every one of you that I will read your emails to Brother and respond to you personally, and whenever possible post some of them on the web for you all to know the progress, and to thank the Lord. I know that you all love him and are concerned. Every one of you is worthy of reply. If you have not received a response from me within 10 days, it may be due to technical, heavy volume or other valid reasons, in which case kindly re-email me without offence. If not for the Lord’s strength I will not be able to cope with such a volume of emails and phone calls of number of precious people that Ruth and Christopher acquired in their life. “I have never seen anyone in my life with as many contacts of individuals and assemblies all over the world as Ruth maintained with up-to-date information. She was a directory for me and many.” I miss her.

I request you to kindly pass this “blog” to others as still many that call me do not know the blog. I am doing the best that I can to fairly give you all, a good idea of Brother’s status if followed regularly as you have been doing. I surely appreciate that.

I welcome any expert suggestions / recommendations for improving the blog / my communication with you.

After some time of the above recording in which brother did so well, he could not remember any one that he recognized in the recording. He has not been able to retain the memory well after recollecting  or after understanding.

I will witness to Bro. Christopher when he gets back his memory of your brotherly, fatherly, elderly and / or friendly love to Bro. Christopher, as I personally had the privilege to witness all of you and also your sincere condolences for the loss of Sis. Ruth who has gone to be with the Lord. I personally thank you for extending the same love to me and my family.

October 11, 2012 Thursday; 11:00 pm CST:

Although Bro. Christopher has been making a gradual progress in memory, he has been having hallucinations due to the head injury. He was very restless yesterday with visual hallucinations in the day and auditory hallucinations in the night.

I have been receiving a number of heartfelt and inspiring emails and phone calls from all over the world, appreciating and blessing for the care given to Bro. Christopher by me and my family. We are humbled for the privilege given to me and my family to serve this servant of God.

I am grateful to Hebron, several assemblies all over the world, Bro. Dave McKeon, John Hawes, Dr. Sukumar, Linus Gamadia, Bro. Neville and  many others, for entreating for praying for us.

I am thankful to God for leading me and my family to a right assembly in the US, the Houston Christian assembly, predominantly consisting of Chinese descendants, very precious brothers, sisters and serious youngsters in the Lord.  What a comfort and support have we gotten from these brethren (brothers, sisters and youngsters). Houston Christian assembly (HCA) is 90 miles away from Beaumont, an hour and half drive. We have been rejoicingly going there since 1992. As a point of interest, Padma is the only Indian descendant that works in the kitchen there with all the Chinese descendant sisters. Sis, Sue enforced that no one should speak Chinese in the kitchen, where as Padma is so comfortable amongst them there and says that she feels that she is a chinese and that she also feels that she speaks Chinese in the kitchen (Oh! What a unity).  It is our desire that Bro. Christopher would recover to an extent that he would once again drive us (as he likes driving) to Houston to resume fellow-shipping with HCA which is my sincere desire.

I am touched by Johnnie Dawson’ today’s email that stated “Be strong”… “Many people unknown to you are praying for you and sister Padma. Undoubtedly I am experiencing the power of God and receiving strength needed for this time of need, through such prayers. Oh! What a comfort! and a mysterious love in the body of Christ! Dear known and unknown that are praying for us, God willing I will see as many of you as possible with Bro. Christopher. I want to present this Christopher who was made a baby as a result of the accident, to all of you and the blood related, a mature Christopher but through your fervent prayers with His help. That is my present ministry.

I am sure I have missed several calls or have not returned the calls unintentionally. Kindly email me if I don’t return the calls. I am better with emails than phone calls, but please do call me.  I was the least cell phone user in the family, Sis. Ruth,  being the highest (Oh! What a gift she had to keep in touch with people and connect people). Like Sister Ruth, a great example in taking the calls, I try to take every call as far as possible unless I am giving patient care at my clinic, especially performing special procedures, involved in Christopher"s care, something very important, or my phone is forgotten to be unmuted. I may not have returned the calls either because your number has not shown up or somehow got deleted or I have failed to check the missed calls.

Whatever you want to write to Bro. Christopher I would like you to kindly address it to him in my email Reddy@ReddysPT.Com and if possible attach your / your family picture/s, so that I can show him your picture/s and read to him so that he can associate better. I would like to make use of reading the letters with your picture/s as a therapy to him and also to help me assess him. I will reply you back with Bro. Christopher’s comments.
We thank you for all your encouragement, inspiration, concern and prayers.

Bro. Christopher has been gradually making a progress physically and mentally. He is still at St. Elizabeth hospital, Beaumont, TX, waiting to go to Rehabilitation center.

He is able recognize all basic colors. He is making progress in math. He calculated 5+5=0, 5-6=(-)1 and 4-10=(-) 6; He counted backwards from 10 to 1 and 100 to 90.  He still cannot remember a single phone number and cannot read a single alphabet or numeral. He can spell almost any word, and spelled words like Nebuchadnezzar, etc without hesitation.

After 2 or 3 days of Bro. Neville’s visit, I took a red small packet containing a tube of cream brought Bro. Neville from Sri Lanka and asked him to read the letters on it. He could not read. When I read it out to him “Pento”and asked him what it was, he said “Hair cream” I asked, “Who brought it”. He said, “Neville.” He again smiled and said, “He (Neville) is always very mindful”

He asks for his needs; expresses pain & discomfort, likes and dislikes; accepts and refuses willfully, etc. As he was in the Pharmaceuticals business he asks the reason for medication and refuses to take medication at times with his reasoning, being quite appropriate several times. He is more restless in bed being comprehensive in certain things and confused in several. He confusingly and frequently keeps saying things like, “We need to arrange for worship;….....I spoke this morning…..I need to speak this evening; ….Today is Sunday; ..Where are we going to have worship; …Where is my suitcase; ….It is in Germany. Let us go and open it; …When is my flight; ... When are we vacating this place; ....We all can stay together in one apartment; ….. Can you read the portion where Lord Jesus turned stones into bread …. Gospel of John chapter 13…..” and the like.

He is very sensible in some, and asks / says, “I need yoghurt; … I need fresh fruit; Get good oranges (he gives instructions how to pick good oranges); …I need something with egg plant (he gives instructions how to cook); They don’t cook the vegetables well here (in the hospital)” “Raghu, go and get your work done. I can take care of myself. If I need water, I will press the button and they will ask, “May I help you”. Then I will say I need water or whatever...”

We bring whatever kind of food he asks. But he hardly eats one to three spoons. He is still having the PEG/Stomach tube through which he is fed in the nights as he has not been eating well.

I want to say that I have read all of your greetings, letters and /or emails to him over a period of time as a therapy to him and also to assess his mental status. Out of all the corresponded, he comprehend one out of them well i.e. of Bro Theodore. I asked him, as I usually ask him before reading any letter, email or greetings, “Bava (Dear brother-in-law), do you know Bro. Theodore Reginald.” He immediately said, “Yes, He was in Dubai. He was a teacher and he took advantage of the profession and preached the gospel”. I said, “He has sent an email. Can I read it to you?” He said, “Yes please.” I read it to him and in response he said, “Very appreciative of him.”
I would like you to note that the above videos were taken yesterday the 9th of October, 2012, within a span of about 20 minutes beginning with the scripture reading at 6:00 PM, and are posted in chronological order to give you an idea of his mental status.

Thanking you once again for your prayers

Bro. Christopher was made to sit in chair today. He amazingly controlled the trunk quite well and sat for an hour and ate on chair. After praying for food, he once again said, “We need to pray for the Lord’s table in a proper manner” and prayed again for the Lords table. He was less weak today. He used the fork and ate a small portion, and also used a cup to drink by himself with minimal cuing  He opened a loose water bottle when asked. He could spell words but couldn't read a single letter of whatever size. He could distinguish red, yellow and grey colors. He is at times being humorous. When the nurse whose name was Joyce was giving morphine, He said, “I hope she will impute Joyce (Joys) to me”. We can engage him in conversation for a brief period which at times is appropriate and other times automatic, and then he goes off track and talks irrelevantly stating, “I spoke this morning in a meeting.” “I have to speak this evening.” “What time is my flight?” “We have to give baptism properly” “you need to practice what you say” “I need to open my suitcase” “My suitcase is in Germany.” Let us go and open it." etc.

Note:

We are making plans to move him to a Rehabilitation center. We request visitors to kindly call us ahead to not cause inconvenience on this end and also that your visit may not be a waste. Kindly always call me on my cell#: 409 781 4461. The alternate number is Padma’s cell#: 409 781 3017. For important / emergency, you may call me at my office#: 409 832 4141. Many are calling our home number 409 842 2188 where we are hardly there as we both sleep in the hospital in the nights and alternate ourselves in the day time as Bro. Christopher needs personal attention.
I would like you to please note that your prayers are being answered and there by everything is going well with Bro. Christopher’s care by God’s grace. We are grateful for your sincere and fervent prayers.

October 3, Wednesday 2012; 6:00 am CST

Aviraj and Phoebe of Washington visited Bro. Christopher on 09/28/2012. Bro. Christopher did not recognize Bro. Avi and Sis. Phoebe but Bro. Avi engaged him in conversation and reminded Bro. Christopher of some of their old friends/Brothers in Dubai during the time they had lived there; and  Brother Christopher acknowledged and verbalized stating that he knew/remembered them.

Bro. Christopher was visited by Elliot from Houston TX, on 09/29/2012 during which time Bro. Christopher was drowsy/sleepy.

Bro. Neville of Sri Lanka, Bro. Linus and Sis. Orpah of Dallas, TX came to Beaumont and stayed with us on 29th and 30th of September and visited Bro. Christopher. Bro. Christopher did not recognize them but when Bro. Linus reminded Bro. Christopher of Bethel of Dallas, he acknowledged remembering.

Bro. Neville reminded Bro. Christopher of their going to Dunkin Donuts for coffee after having supper in Syracuse, NY and Bro. Christopher smiled in response. Bro. Christopher, although could not say who Bro. Neville was when he came to visit him, Bro. Christopher appropriately addressed him by his name and talked to him sensibly over the phone the next day when Bro. Neville spoke to him from Dallas.

Bro. Christopher is able to call the names of some people at times appropriately; and he says that he knows when asked if he knew such and such a person but when asked who that person is, he is not able give details yet. During the visit of Bro. Neville, Bro. Linus and Sis. Orpah, Bro. Christopher  asked, “Where is Ruth. She has gone for too long”. But he did not show emotions and did not dwell in the matter. He has been able to somewhat distinguish who a Physician or a Nurse is  and there are indications to presume that he somewhat knows that he is in the hospital (or atleast in a place that is not our house)  although cannot say where he is when he is specifically asked. He has been able to spell the names of people when asked. He still does not remember many familiar names. He can not remember a single phone number in which he was expert.  He has recently been saying, “Let us go home.” (This breaks our hearts. Kindly pray that this may happen ASAP). He asks for water, coffee or food of his choice although does not eat much even when the food of his choice has been brought. He relishes coffee which he at times consumes a full cup.
He had infection in the right ankle suture site as shown below that exposed the hard ware (Metal Plate that was used to fix the fracture) and therefore was an Orthopedic Surgery performed on 10/02/2012 for Incision and drainage and removal of the hard ware.
He still gets feeding through the stomach tube in the nights as he hardly eats. He is very weak and there is a generalized loss of muscle mass. He can not open a water bottle, not because of in coordination but because of generalized weakness. He still has no trunk control to be able to sit. He is still not allowed to bear any weight on right foot.

Over all Bro. Christopher has a long way to go. He is still in the hospital. It is unsure yet if and when he would go to a Nursing home or a Rehabilitation Center.

I am deeply grateful to every one of you for your concern, love and prayers.

Videos of Bro. Christopher:

September 23, 2012; 10:00 PM CST
Brother Christopher was visited by Bro. Lee from Houston. Brother Christopher said to Bro. Lee in an automated fashion, “Are you going to have worship on Sunday. ----Are there Chinese? ------Go and have some food ----”

I made Bro. Christopher talk to some people over the phone / “face time” in the past few days. He talked to them in an automatic familiar fashion addressing them brother and sister very politely but did not verbalize their names by himself. Emails have been read to him but it is hard to say how much he comprehended. He is not oriented to time; date and place but he can say what day is the next day if he is told what day is today. We have been asking him if he knew the names of several familiar people, places and assemblies.

On 09/20/2012 for the question, “Do you know Bro. K Philip?  He immediately said, “Yes, He is from Madras.”  He answered that only for one time.
On 09/21/2012 for the question, “Do you know Bro. Neville? Where is he from?  He said, “Yes, He is from Sri Lanka.” He answered that for one time only and after that he started answering that everyone was from Sri Lanka including his brothers.
On 09/22/2012 AM: When I asked, “Who is Eapen” He said, “Brother of ………….”.
He would mostly say yes if he is asked if he knew such and such a person, but would not be able to say particulars of the person except of very few occasionally.

On 09/22/2012 PM, when I explained to him about the accident and the death of Ruth, for the first time he said, “How can I take it”? He did not dwell in the matter and went onto a different topic and after some time he said, “It is the Lord’s calling. We have to trust Him”. Then he asked what ever happened to the car. When I explained to him whatever happened to the car, he said that he had a Bible in which there was a check and money. We told him that we did not get the Bible from the Police but that we got all the money and that the check was at home and not in the Bible. He said, “OK”.
The next day (today), I brought the check from home that we found in their room upstairs and showed him if that was the check that he was meaning. He said, “Yes”. I told him to read what was on the check and he read, “D.S. Chri-----”and none beyond. He could neither read the check amount nor the name of the Bank with bold letters on the top of the check but he simply said that it was the same check.
This evening, ‘When I told him that Bro. Neville was coming on Thursday to Beaumont, he said, “We will have a chance to see him. I will have fellowship. I hope we could gather and have meetings on Thursday and Friday”.
He was able to say out John 3: 16 and not any other, but would complete any verse if read 3/4th way through.

Note:
Kindly note that we will be able to provide accommodation in our house for those that want to come to Beaumont. Due to the circumstances, we recommend you to have your own transportation by being able to drive in Texas and be able to prepare your own food in our kitchen or eat outside. Our house is outskirts of the town. There is no bus service any way close to our house; and taxi service is not that great and not practical. Closest airport is Houston which is about 85 miles. If you stay with someone in Houston it is an hour and half ride to Beaumont.

Christopher’s Road to recovery:

Bro. Christopher was visited by Ashish S/O Bro. J.P. Rao of Michigan who was deeply touched by seeing Bro. Christopher in bed and said, “We cannot understand God’s doings-------We cannot question Him”. Bro. Christopher was asked to pray for Ashish. He prayed but he prayed for the Lord’s table.

Sitting at the edge of the bed for the first time for sitting balance training.

Brother Christopher verbalized my full name and Padma’s name for the first time today. He described once my relationship to him appropriately as brother-in-law. He also said, “Thank you Padma for preparing Chicken curry, in spite of difficulties. It was very nice.” The speech seemed automatic and yet appropriate. He continues to remain at St. Elizabeth hospital, Beaumont, TX and is receiving Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies.
I still have not called many and still owe returning of phone calls or emails. I am very grateful for all of you understanding my solitary situation. As I was dealing a matter of life and death on August the 11th night (Sunday the 12th AM in India), I made 3 calls to Hebron before the death of Ruth and was unable to reach Sis. Sauda with whom I usually communicate. I, then called Brother K. Phillip of Madras and he took immediate action to convey the message to key people and thereby to the rest of the world.
I am thankful for several people like Dave Mckeon, John Haws, Dr. Sukumar, Dr. Ashok, R.S. Kuruvilla, K. Phillip, Kenneth , Satish, Linus/Bethel Dallas, Solomon Raj (my teenage friend), Neville, George Jacob, Houston Christian Assembly’s brothers and sisters, Believers from Nepal / Nepali descendants in UK and US, Daniel Khatri, Samuel, International Assembly, Several brothers, sisters and elders in Hebron and several assemblies all over the world,   who knew my solitary situation, did excellent job of  passing the message to one another and to all over the world. Florence and Dorothy have taken the responsibility to inform our relatives and keep them updated.  This all has helped me to focus on caring Ruth and Christopher.
What an understanding and what an unity is it in the body of Christ Eph.4:3, ------when one member suffers, all the members suffer with it 1 Cor. 12:26.

May we all endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace! Eph: 4:3

Latest: As Padma and the Nurse were just giving care tonight to Christopher they were talking to each other about the accident. Christopher intervened and said, “The other person hit my car” The Nurse asked, “Were you alone in the car”. He said, “Some one was with me.” The Nurse asked, “Who was that someone. Do you know the name”. Christopher said, “Ruth”. The Nurse asked, “Where is she now”. Christopher said, “She is counseling the people”.

Our precious “Baby Christopher” – a gift of God:

Due to certain reasons Brother Christopher is still in the hospital and is waiting to be transferred to a Nursing Home. His kidneys are working well. He is still being fed through the stomach (PEG) tube. Stomach (PEG) tube will be removed when he is able to eat a sufficient volume. He can eat and swallow. He eats only a volume of about 15% of the hospital provided diet when fed slowly. He is not able to say if he is thirsty or hungry. Very occasionally he asks for water. He is unable sit / maintain sitting balance and there by needs total assistance.

Tracheostomy tube has been removed and Brother Christopher has started speaking since 4 days. As he has started speaking, we are coming to understand his neurological state clearer than earlier. He has become more like a child, confused and restless – moving / turning and talking irrelevantly & continuously. He needs constant care. I am not sure if what I thought he understood in the past was right, or his memory has gotten worse? I had taken it for granted that he had understood whenever he used to shake his head.  He is now truly behaving like an innocent child. His behavior is very polite and answers to questions very decently and lovingly.  We have been rehabilitating him by asking questions and making him answer and then asking him to repeat with right answers when he makes mistakes.
The following were the questions and answers in the past 4 days?

Raghu: Do you know what happened to you?
Christopher: No answer.
Raghu: what is your name?
Christopher: Christopher (Most of the times he answered it right either by saying Christopher or Devavaram).
Raghu: What is your date of birth?
December 18, 1942 (Most of the times he answered it right)
Raghu: Who is Ruth?
Christopher:  No answer. Once he answered and said, “Hebron”. He has not been able to answer this question.
Raghu: Where is Akka (Sis. Ruth)? What happened to her?
He gave different answers at different times such as, She is in England, She is in North America, She is in Ohio, She is hurt, She is in the temple of God, She is drawn to the Lord etc”.
(They were married in 1971. He is not able to remember Ruth and their marriage. Since he said at one time “She is drawn to the Lord”, I have to assume that he may have understood at one time somewhat.)

Raghu: What is your mother’s name?
Christopher: Julia
Raghu: What is your father’s name?
Christopher: Devavaram
Raghu: Who am I? What is my name?
Christopher: No answer (He looks blank)
Raghu: Who is she? ( pointing Padma)
Christopher: No answer (He looks blank)
Raghu: Isn’t she Padma?.
Christopher: Padma
(When told, he repeats the names. He is not able to recognize either me or my wife Padma at all)
Raghu: Do you know Bahrain?
Christopher: Ofcourse. Small place.
Raghu: When were you in Bahrain?
Christopher: 1969.
Raghu: How many brothers do you have?
Christopher: No answer (He looks confused)
Raghu: How many sisters do you have?
Christopher: No answer (He looks confused)
Raghu: Do you know Eliezer?
Christopher: Ofcourse. He is my brother.
Raghu: Do you know Johnnie?
Christopher: My brother.
Raghu: Do you know Nehemiah?
Christopher: My brother.
Raghu: Do you know Beulah?
Christopher: My sister.
Raghu: Do you know Esther?
Christopher: My sister.
Raghu: Do you know where you are?
Christopher: No answer.
Do you know Brother Bakht Singh?
Christopher: Ofcourse.
Raghu: What do you want me to read from the Bible?
Christopher: Deuteronomy.
Raghu: What Chapter
Christopher: What Chapters are there.
Raghu: There are 34 chapters. Which chapter do you want me to read?
Christopher: Chapter 34.
Raghu: Can you read this?
He was unable to focus and unable to read.
Raghu: Do you want water?
Christopher: Yes please. Hot water.
Can you pray?
When asked to pray, without delay he can amazingly do so with his same style with rich vocabulary and compound sentences without mistakes either in substance or grammar until said amen, but mostly automatic.
Can you sing Amazing grace?
Christopher: Immediately like an obedient child he obeyed, sang the song and satisfied us. ( This made us cry. Because, we see here the man who lived a dignified life and  in authority has become like a child. This reminded us " Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children")

He eats very decently and opens his mouth very obediently and immediately upon bringing the spoon to the mouth like a good child, and politely says enough when he does not want to eat any more. He politely says thank you, welcome, etc as a well trained child. We are assessing if the cut off point for his memory is 1969 and that he remembers that of prior to 1969, and lost memory of all that is after 1969. He continuously keeps talking irrelevantly but very politely and pleasantly and without any grammar mistakes in his sentences. He answers in Telugu if asked in Telugu and in English if asked in English.

“We cannot trade our precious baby Christopher with anything other/less than the Matured Christopher”.
Kindly pray toward that.
He is worth millions. He is a gift of God.
Kindly pray that the Lord may make every provision from above for his continued care.

Thanking you,
Sincerely.

Wonder working God and promise keeping God:

Bro. Christopher’s Dialysis Catheter has been removed yesterday as the Kidneys have been consistently producing urine. He does not need to have dialysis. This is truly a miracle in order to fulfill the promise Psalm 91: 16 - “With long life shall he satisfy him, ……..”.
His tracheostomy tube size is decreased to smaller. He will have a speaking valve tomorrow. I have started training him for functional activities such as cleaning teeth / mouth with a swab, Changing TV channels, etc. along with several other exercises with in the bed– see video clips. He is getting ready quite fast to a Nursing home.

Thank you all for your prayers. Kindly praise the Lord for what He has done so far and continue to pray claiming the above promise not only for long life but also for a quality life for Bro. Christopher and thereby the Lord may use him much more than He ever used him in the past.

Is Brother Christopher going to live? (A testimony of God)

In 1993, when Bro. Christopher had a heart attack, Sister Ruth called me and said that he was given no hope by the Cardiac Surgeons in Hyderabad, India. I said to her, “Bring him here”. Without delay,  Sis. Ruth brought him here to Beaumont, TX, USA.  Bro. Christopher had a promise from the Lord that He would prolong his life which I believe was through Psalm 91: 16 – “With long life shall he satisfy him, ……..”. He clung to the promise, came to US, got operated in the US in 1993 and thus his life upon this earth was prolonged, that too with a quality life. We have been claiming the same promise even now on Bro. Christopher.

Brother Christopher will live long enough till God has completed His work that Bro. Christopher has been sent into this world for and is ready for heaven.

His kidneys are producing urine consistently and he is still receiving Dialysis as needed. He is very feebly but appropriately moving his lips, trying to speak. He cannot speak presently due to tracheostomy.  He is gradually improving in the matter of following commands.

Thank you for your concern and prayers.
Kindly continue to pray that the Lord may also manage the worldly concerns to preserve the earthly life of His servant, Bro. Christopher as long as it is needed.

Saturday, September 08, 2012 6:00 PM CST:

Bro. Christopher’s kidneys that were shut down, have amazingly started producing urine since this morning gradually and consistently. Dialysis was cancelled for today. This is one of the most encouraging news as Bro. Christopher has been fighting for life. Thank you for your continued prayers.

He was visited by Bro Tyson and Sis. JoAnn of Houston, TX today with whom he shook hands although he was very feeble at the time of their visit.

Brother Christopher has been moved out of Intensive Care Unit to a Private room. He would be moved to a Nursing Home at any time uncertainly (in days, weeks or months) upon availability and that could be away from Beaumont. Therefore, it is a good idea for anyone to call my cell#:(409) 781 4461 or email to Reddy@ReddysPT.com before making plans to come and visit Brother Christopher. His kidneys are still shut down. Tunneled dialysis catheter / long-term
dialysis catheter has been done yesterday. He is making a consistent progress in his neurological and respiratory condition. He has no facial expressions presently. He is meaningfully waving the hand and shaking the hand although feebly. He moved his lips to say “Amen” and “Praise the Lord” but very feebly. He is breathing by himself through tracheostomy while oxygen is being delivered through it. He is coughing continuosly and that is putting him to strain. Kindly pray that he may get into an appropriate (that would handle one with this kind of condition) and a convenient
Nursing home for our sake.

Thanking you,

Raghu R.B. Reddy in Christ

September 05 2012, 6:00 AM CST

Bro. Christopher has been making a consistent progress in his neurological and respiratory status. He has been weaned off of the ventilator. He is breathing by himself while oxygen is being delivered through the tracheotomy. He was visited yesterday by Bro. Dale King and Sis. Helen King of Houston, TX, whom Bro. Christopher wished them by waving his hand to them and shaking hand with them as they were leaving to Scottsdale, AZ, in the process of moving their residence from Texas to Arizona (See the picture). The Kidneys are still shut down. Tunneled dialysis catheter / long-term dialysis catheter has been once again postponed for today the 5th September for a reason.

September 03, 2012,  12:00 Noon CST

There has been a quite change in my uncle Bro. Christopher's status for good as far as the Neurological and respiratory status is concerned while the status of Kidneys being still the same with high readings of BUN and Creatinine.

While my dad was in Syracuse, NY this weekend representing Uncle Christopher at the funeral service of Uncle Koshy, and me being in New York, my mom was attending on Uncle Christopher at Christus St. Elizabeth hospital, Beaumont, TX.  When my mom was at the hospital yesterday in the afternoon, she showed my Uncle Christopher live on iPhone while he was wide alert;  To every one’s surprise he followed commands so well that he appropriately lifted each hand, his left Index finger and then the right Index finger to my commands. He opened his eyes and stared at me on the iphone.  He focused on my conversation and when I said bye to him, he waved his hand and moved lips to say bye.  At the same time I also spoke to one of the Physicians of Uncle Christopher who just had come to visit him and he gave an update which is as follows.  Currently they are weaning him off of Ventilator.  They are having him on the ventilator for 4 hours and off of ventilator for 4 hours.  He has been tolerating it well.
Tunneled dialysis catheter / long-term dialysis catheter has been postponed for tomorrow the 4th September for a reason.  The next update would be given on Saturday the 8th of September 2012 unless there is change.

Update for August 31, 6am CST

Dear friends, family, and brothers & sisters in the Lord:
My Uncle Bro. Christopher has not followed commands in the past 24 hours. He has been moving all the extremities but not purposefully in the past 24 hours.

There has been a good reduction in Subarachnoid hemorrhage. But Kidneys have been of great concern. The Nephrologist said, “The kidneys are shut down. The chances are small that he can make it------” Therefore our focus of prayer has to be on his kidneys and above all, that the Lord may give him strength to bear the pain and discomfort. Brother Christopher is going for tunneled dialysis catheter / long-term dialysis catheter this morning.
My dad also needs your prayers as he has to take care of his Physical Therapy clinic and Bro. Christopher who is critical. I apologize on my father’s behalf for it was humanly not possible for him to return such a big volume of calls from all over the world. We are appreciative of every one of your calls that were made to us to enquire about my aunt’s and uncle’s status. Our hearts are touched for the sacrifice made by every one of you that have either come to Beaumont or enquired over phone or email.
Several more friends, brothers & sisters in the Lord and some family members are wanting to come to Beaumont to visit Bro. Christopher. We sincerely want to welcome every one of you. Please note that he is in the Intensive Care Unit where only 3 people are allowed at a time during the following timings: 5:45 to 6:00 AM,9:45 to 10:00 AM1:45 to 2:00 PM4:45 to 5:00 PMand 8:15 to 8:30 PM.

My dad had a thorn in the flesh for 3 years, and it has just been removed miraculously by the Lord so timely at this critical time of this tragic accident and therefore is able to take care of Bro. Christopher. His work is also demanding as he is the only Physical Therapist in the region that does several advanced Physical Therapy procedures. I want to thank every one of you that have been praying not only for my uncle Christopher but for my dad also for the healing. God’s timing is perfect.

I would highly appreciate everyone that wants to come to Beaumont, to make their own arrangements for accommodation and transportation.  In that way, my dad can take care of my uncle Christopher and his Clinic. As it is, he is currently seeing the patients only 2X/week due to the current critical situation.

My dad will be glad to help you any way he can or give any information if you would communicate with him on his cell #: 409-781-4461 or email:

August 29th, 5:00pm CST

Brother Christopher was visited by Bro. John Haws today.  He is able to briefly recognize people and raise his right arm and shake hands.  His BUN and creatinine reduced, which is an improvement from yesterday. His ventilator settings were reduced, but he was not able to tolerate, and the settings were raised again. His heart rate is stable on medication.

August 28, 2012 6:00am CST
Brother Christopher was quite alert this morning at six although for a brief period. He followed verbal commands and purposefully  turned his head, looked, raised his right arm for the first time and voluntarily placed his hand in Raghu's hand.

August 27, 2012 6:30pm CST
Brother Christopher was in atrial fibrillation (increased heart rate) which was brought down with beta blockers.  His BUN is doubled with increased  creatinine,  indicating worsening of kidney function.  This was after his dialysis today.  His response to verbal commands is almost negligible.

August 26th 2012 12:00pm. CST

Drs Sukumar and Shamla and their nephew Rajkumar visited Brother Christopher.  Brother Christopher responded with a smile for the first time.  He has been moving his right hand (but not whole arm yet) since yesterday. His kidneys still produce no urine and he is on dialysis. His BUN and Creatinine are still high.

August 24, 2012, 10:00 CST
Brother Christopher had 2 units of blood transfused as his hemoglobin was low. His potassium levels were high as well as his BUN & Creatinine levels for which he received dialysis. He is in severe pain which he expresses with facial expressions. He is on Dilaudid and Ativan for pain and rest.

August 23, 2012 9:30pm CST

Brother Christopher’s surgery was delayed till afternoon as his potassium levels were high since he did not have dialysis yesterday.  Dialysis was first done and he was later taken for tracheostomy tube placement, peg tube  placement, and repair of his left humerus bone fracture.  He is out from surgery and is still under the effect of anesthesia.

August 22, 2012  9:30pm CST

Dr. Sukumar & Dr. Shamala (of UK) and  Brother John Haws & Sister Kay (of Australia)  visited Brother Christopher yesterday and today (08/22/2012).  Brother Christopher has been showing appropriate emotional expressions on his face. He has slight movement in both legs and can squeeze left hand while awake. He still does not move his right hand (which he was able to do few days ago). The orthopedic surgeon explained the plan of care and showed the CTs and MRIs to Dr Sukumar. Dr. Sukumar himself being an Orthopedic Surgeon appreciated the care given to Bro. Christopher at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont, TX. The surgeons decided to do Tracheostomy and peg and also repair the fractured left humerus (upper arm) tomorrow.  His foley catheter was removed as he was not making enough urine and also as that would just be an added port through which infection could enter into the body.  Repeat CT scan of the head showed some improvement.
Aug 21, 2012 9:30pm CST

Brother Christopher was seen by trauma surgeons today, who stated that he should be placed on peg tube (hole in stomach for direct feeding), and that a tracheostomy should be done tomorrow to reduce chances if infection. He has a fever and his IV lines will be changed to make sure they are not source of infection. He is already on antibiotics. This will keep him at ease instead of having many tubes through his mouth and nose so that he can be comfortable.

Aug 21, 2012 8:45am CST

After Ruth's funreal service on Saturday, the 18th of August, 2012, brother Christopher was visited by many brothers and sisters from different parts of the world. He did open his eyes, moved his head and seemed to have focused on the visitors. He was then tired and went back to sleep as he was on medicines for sedation. Before he was visited by brothers and sisters on Saturday, Raghu, Padma and Kiran explained to brother Christopher that Ruth went to be with the Lord.  He was in a quite wakeful situation at that time. He moved his mouth while the tubes were in his mouth, opened his eyes wide, shed tears in his eyes trying to express his emotions, while his heart rate and blood pressure remained stable, which shows he understood, while having peace about it. Yesterday, he was responsive to family members with slight movement of various part of his body, but then he would go back to sleep.

His nephrologist still says that he is not producing any urine on his own, and the kidneys are shut down now, and the chances of recovery are slim if any and will take a long time if the kidneys would ever recover. He is on daily dialysis at the moment, which can be changed to more frequent or continuous dialysis at any point.  He is in a catabolic state which means he is breaking down his own body. The dialysis is clearing as much toxins as it can so the heart rate and cognition are not affected.

He still has swelling inside the brain in addition to the subarachnoid hemorrhage, for which neurosurgeons have opted for close monitoring with no other interventions at this time as it might be too dangerous.

He is still on ventilator. He can breathe by 60% while rest of the 40% is done by the ventilator. They would only consider weaning him off of the ventilator when he is awake all the time and can breathe on his own.

He is on tube feeding currently which is being adjusted as tolerated.

            He is having bowel movement
